Back in late 2023, I wrote about the revolution sparked by OpenAI and the impact of generative AI on me personally as a marketer. Then, I saw AI as both a tool, as well as a co-pilot in the journey of creative exploration.

In this blog, I’m picking up the conversation where I left off, with a journey through the current era of AI adoption and the deepening impact of AI on our everyday lives – and on the diamond industry.

AI: Love it or hate it?

The adoption of technology is rarely smooth sailing, and no era of change has been met without resistance.

When people began writing thousands of years ago, for instance, Socrates warned that it would ruin the use of memory. When the first railroads opened, many people believed that bodies could not withstand the unprecedented speed of the steam engine. And when TV took over radio, there were fears that it would disrupt the norms of conversation and household routines.

Today, there are similar concerns, if not outright fears, about AI. In fact, at the 2024 AI for Good Global Summit, one presenter shared striking data: AI optimism reached 90% in nations like China and Vietnam, while countries like the United Kingdom, Canada, and the United States were far more pessimistic. Clearly, cultural and economic factors shape our readiness to embrace AI, both its positives and negatives.

Fear and resistance, however, often spur innovation. They challenge professionals and organizations to refine and adapt their products. Think of it as a kind of super cost-effective prototyping.” With AI, we can speed up the development process for concepts and products, and discover new ways to appeal to skeptical audiences.
